A Google Gift for Writers

May 24, 2011 by Steven Sparling Leave a Comment

The Google Gift for WritersGoogle has offered a major gift for writers with Panda, its new formula for ranking websites.

Not too long ago all they looked at was how frequently certain keywords appeared on your pages. This led to a lot of keyword rich drivel which still landed pages high in search results.

But no more.

New Developments for Writers

Now Google weighs heavily how much people read, and more importantly, share your information.

This means that quality now counts.

Sadly in the past few years there were unscrupulous website owner/publishers who were paying absolute peanuts to writers to produce website copy, or even worse using computer generated pieces that were peppered with keywords but barely made sense. They could get away with this because it didn’t really matter.

But all that’s changed with Panda.

Write Great Material

Now, if you want to rank well on Google, you’re going to have to produce material that people actually want to read. Material that’s so good that people want to Tweet about it, post it on Facebook or mention it in their blog. That’s what’s going to score you well in Google now.

What does this require?

People who can research and write good material. And because quality will now matter, website editors are going to have to start paying for it.

This should translate into better paid jobs for web-savvy writers.

Use this opportunity. Polish up your clippings file and your website and get out there and write!

And give thanks to Panda for making good writing count again.
